San Miguel is a maze of cobblestone streets and alleys, and that's what makes it so special. Shop 'Til You Drop at the Mercado de Artesanías

Calling all shopaholics! The Mercado de Artesanías is a dream come true. This vibrant market is packed with unique crafts, pottery, jewelry, and textiles. Whether you're on the hunt for souvenirs or just want to browse, you're bound to find something that catches your eye.

Indulge in the Local Cuisine

Get your taste buds ready for a culinary adventure. San Miguel is known for its amazing food scene, so be sure to try some local dishes. Check Out the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel

 You can't visit San Miguel without stopping by the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. This stunning church is the city's centerpiece, and it's even more beautiful in person. Take a moment to admire the architecture, then relax in the nearby Jardín Principal and people-watch to your heart's content.

 Take to the Skies in a Hot Air Balloon

Ready for something truly unforgettable? Hop into a hot air balloon and take in the breathtaking views of San Miguel from above. It's the perfect way to start your day and get a bird's-eye view of the city and its stunning surroundings.

Join a Fiesta!

San Miguel is all about celebrating, and you might just find yourself in the middle of a fiesta. From parades to live music and fireworks, there's always something happening. If you hear music in the streets, follow it – you never know where the party might lead you!

San Miguel de Allende is located in the far eastern part of Guanajuato, Mexico. It's a colonial city nestled in the Baijo mountains to the Northwest of Mexico City.

The closest airports are:

- BJX (about 55 miles west of San Miguel)

- QRO (about 50 miles south of San Miguel)

- MEX (about 170 miles from San Miguel)

Our recommendation would be to travel to either BJX or QRO, as both of these airports have regular flights from various U.S. cities and take a shuttle or cab into the city of San Miguel (approximately an hour ride). Once in the city, it's easy to walk around.

For those who want more flexibility to travel around, car rentals are very cheap at either BJX or QRO and you can drive into the city.

From Denver
Cheaper and quicker to fly into QRO via Dallas.

From Southern CA
Both QRO and BJX are good options. There is no direct flight and you will have to stop for a layover.

From Houston/Dallas
Plenty of options to either QRO or BJX from Houston and Dallas. There are also nonstop flights daily.

From NY (LGA)
Highly Recommend flying from LGA to QRO. There is 1 stop in ATL or DAL but options are affordable and quicker than flying elsewhere from NY.

From Tampa
Either BJX or QRO are options, though it makes sense to coordinate layover in Dallas or Houston.

San Miguel is a small town, so you likely won't need to worry about transportation, unless you're taking a day trip to nearby attractions, like to Guanajuato or Querétaro, or visiting the lake just outside city limits. Your most common mode of transportation will be on foot — so pack comfy shoes — but be warned that San Miguel's altitude and the hilly terrain can take your breath away, literally. If you'd prefer, you can easily flag down a green taxi or call an Uber instead of trekking back up the cobblestone streets.

Buses: San Miguel's bus station, or terminal, is on the west side of town. Here, you'll be able to book a bus to nearby destinations like León, Bernal, or Mexico City. For the buses the locals take, you'll want to hop on one of the Urbana lines, which are mapped out here. Rates will vary depending on the route and time of day, but a trip shouldn't cost you more than a few pesos.

Taxis: It won't be hard to flag down one of San Miguel's quintessential green-and-white taxis in most parts of town. If you're staying downtown, cabs are plentiful. On the outskirts of the city, you may need to head to a main road to hail a cab.

Ride service: Uber has an extensive transit web across the city, stretching out into nearby towns. Depending on traffic and trip length, your Uber should come out around 30-100 pesos (or $1.50-$5).

The Restaurant - gorgeous restaurant with a patio and open roof. There's also a boutique attached to the restaurant that's fun to check out.

La Única - excellent rooftop views to grab a drink and munch on chips/salsa

Los Milagros - a lively place in the heart of the city with live music and BIG plates of food!

Bekeb - the best cocktail bar that SMA offers. Do not miss out!
